Giving the Gift of Transcendence

As the holiday season comes, the joy of the season begins to take hold.  Despite the darkness, I sense the warmth between friends, family and even strangers.

Since the publication of my book Transcendence this past June, I have traveled all over the country, sharing some of the events and insights that propelled me to write Transcendence – and the passion I feel for its subject — Transcendental Meditation. I have been stimulated by the responses I have received from both seasoned meditators and those who are open-minded and interested in finding out about new ways to relieve stress, stay focused and accomplish their goals.

Giving the gift of TranscendenceMost recently, on my professional Facebook page I have been inspired by a fellow who is giving the book Transcendence as gifts to friends… This is a gift that gives through the positive intention of inspiring family and friends to change their life in very positive and meaningful ways.

This holiday season I will be giving 10 copies of Transcendence with wishes of sustainable transformation, greater health and deeper joy for all.

Update: Due to the great response that was received and all of the heartfelt comments we have doubled the amount of books being given. We have randomly chosen the winners and are sending the copies today (12/21/2011).

For your chance to win a free copy of Transcendence simply comment on this page below and let me know why you would like the book.

If you would like to give Transcendence as a gift for a family member or friend this holiday season you can click – Give the gift of Transcendence

Wishing you Light and Transcendence,

Norman Rosenthal, M.D.

hello 🙂 To have an opportunity to learn a form of meditation that can both help the individual and the entire population would be fantastic. I was diagnosed with a major mental illness about 6 years ago, but through learning about the condition, a healthy lifestyle, support from family and friends and becoming spiritually aware I have managed to leave all the medication behind and lead a meaningful and purpose filled existence. This book would give me the opportunity to learn and help others with its contents.

For me, the TM technique is an invaluable treasure. It helped me during a very difficult time in my life, while I was away from my country. Now, I’m eager to read this book and learn more about this wonderful gift that has been given to us, so I can share it with my people. I know so many of them who would benefit immensely from it here in Chile… I’ve been wanting to read this book since it was published. I know some people who would be interested in learning about this technique and taking it to those who need it the most, but are somehow disheartened because of the lack of resources, and the lack of scientific material to back up their words. This would be perfect.

  66. C.Rajeev says:

    Hello Doctor,

The underlying principle of TM and TM SIDDHIS is only to take the Mind and Intellect of a person to a higher level of Being. According to my personal experience for so many years, it often happens that I reach the Zone Of Unbounded Awareness gradually…Once you learn to get there by systematic practice, many doubts and fears are cleared automatically and the Inner Joy of the Self prevails in all its glory! In other words, I really understand that what we are searching for is lying “within” and not outside…I also understand that human life is not just a biological one but a Spiritual One …Jai GuruDev.

  67. Doris says:

  70. Margot Suettmann says:

I love the book too and sent it to my nephew who is a neuroscientist in Berlin. After some time he wrote back stating that he had started to read it and that a colleague of his was doing meditation research…. I haven’t heard of him more till then and am careful not to press or urge anyone of my folks as I don’t want to missionate anyone of them…. (I did this at the very beginning after I learnt TM, but now I keep quite 🙂 because everyone needs to discover this on his own and in his own pace…. and experience taught me to be a little cautious, not to appear as a prophet in my own country for something which is good and which I personally love a lot 🙂 However, the book is brilliantly written, it is informative and very down to earth, very interested in the colorfulness of different characters and individuals and their outlooks on life, their way of handling life, their circumstances and how they viewed the gains and changes meditating has brought about in their lives – and therefore it was a real, undiminished pleasure to give this book as a gift! And now I’d like to have my own copy of it…..

Best regards to the author whom I got to know through his book and blogs as a wonderfully open-minded, highly educated and well versed, naturally compassionate, brilliant person.

  91. C.Rajeev says:

There should not be hectic activity during the daily life—The Bhagawad Gita says “Yoga and Meditation is not for those who sleep too much nor for those who eat too much…”

There should be moderation in eating, sleeping and daily activity…Even if a person eats very less or sleeps very less, then also it is not welcome…

One should not watch violence or other provoking content in television or videos…These will shake the Mind out of its Natural Balance—

Certain regulations in routine life should be followed by all Meditators since they help in increasing the Mental Peace

One should not listen to rattling music since it will not promote Inner Joy—The music that one listens should be smoothing and pleasant –For example, the Vedic chanting or Indian Classical Music…There is a direct correlation between the Sound and the Mind…

The food that one eats should also be Sattwic in nature–One should not take non vegetarian food or spicy food, since it is not conducive to the mind to reach its subtler state of awareness—

    Thanks for reading—

    Hello doctor,

In ancient India, there was a system of Yoga ( not much popular as TM) called Japa Yoga…

In this method, the practitioner will chant the holy name of his favorite God, in a low voice, within himself, so that his mind follows that sound, until he reaches the Inner Peace..

But, in TM, the practitioner does not chant the Mantra with sound and frankly speaking, chanting a Mantra mentally is a bit difficult than uttering the sound verbally..

Because, the mind is compared to a mad monkey which is drunk, in ancient Vedic texts of India..

The ancient Indians promoted Classical Dance, Classical Music and also the Vedas since they were in close relation with the control of mind..

The ultimate purpose of all systems of Yoga and Meditation is one and the same– achievement of Inner Happiness and Universal Tranquility…

The ancient Vedas proclaim: “Lokaas samasthah Sukhino Bavantu” which means ” Let everyone in the world live in Peace forever”..

    Jai Gurudev.

I would extremely appreciate having a sample copy of your book so I can be introduced to what I have heard to be the ultimate lifestyle–TM. According to my research, TM would help me tremendously with my upcoming major back surgery (or surgeries) and also my recent ER and hospital stay because of medication interferene resulting in disorientation (got lost in my own neighborhood). Thank you in advance for your consideration. Deborah

    Hello!

I welcome Dr Norman Rosenthal, Dr John Hagelin, and Mr David Lynch, to read a lot of Spiritual literature on Meditation and Yoga, since I believe that they have the right attitude and the right understanding…

Such people are hard to find in this era and they should unite to educate and enlighten the people who are in ignorance…

India has given the best of its spiritual treasure to the world and it is openly available for all those who strive for it sincerely…Jai GuruDev.

    Hello!

In India, the Gayatri Mantra and the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra are very famous.

By regularly chanting Gayatri Mantra, a person gets access to Inner Peace and Intelligence. His mind slowly awakens to a heightened level of thinking.

On regularly chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra, a person is gradually liberated from the bondage of the material world( which is nothing but birth and death) and becomes a “free bird”. He also comes to an understanding that the manifested world is “transient” in nature.

    Hello doctor!

I kindly request you to publish in this blog my writings on Sri Ramana Maharishi, so that any one can come to know about this great Sage.

Bhagawan Ramana is not much different from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The former preached through Silence throughout his life, but the latter is popular throughout the world.

The simplest TM technique of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi made him popular in the West.

    Thanks,Dr.

    Hello Doctor!

Normally, there is a common problem encountered by many TM practitioners. I know many people who come to me and say that they do not get any blissful or positive experience even after repeated sessions.

Many used to say that they are able to see movies running as though they are watching them in real!

This is because of the mind not being able to detach itself from the previous activity that it was actively involved.

Since TM is a finer level of mental activity, it takes a few minutes for the mind to dive within.

People easily get involved in watching action and other movies rather than watching spiritual content in TV. This is because watching spiritual and educative content requires a finer and in depth understanding.

The mind of the TM practitioner takes nearly four or five minutes to settle down to a subtler level after closing the eyes. Many people do not understand this fact, and they abandon the TM practice.

We can compare TM practice to switching on and off a computer— When a computer switches on, it is called “booting”–it takes a few minutes to come to the desktop. Also, while shutting down, it takes a few minutes to shut down completely. Note that this should be done as per the procedure.

The same is applicable to TM practice also. Am I right?

If the TM teachers are able to provide proper and continuous guidance on various doubts and issues, we will be able to see many more TM practitioners throughout the world.

It is always advisable to learn TM in the presence of a registered psychiatrist since he/she will be able to resolve any subtle issues of the learners from the psychiatric point of view also.

I feel that Dr Norman Rosenthal is the correct example.

    Thanks!
