Dear friend:

Thanks for stopping by and visiting my page.

This past year has been a good one for me, as I hope it has been for you too.

Some highlights have included:

  • I recently traveled to my homeland where I still have family. My son Joshua accompanied me and we explored Cape Town and its environs. For good reason it has been called the Fairest Cape of All. Table Mountain, the unspoiled coastline and the sensational beaches reminded me of the vacations of my childhood.
  • In my clinical trials organization, CCRA, I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to research new compounds that have the potential to improve the way we take care of people with emotional and physical suffering. In the process I have made many friends in the pharmaceutical industry and have been delighted by their intelligence, enthusiasm and knowledge.
  • I have enjoyed rewriting my book winter blues for its Third Edition due out this fall. I thought that only a touch up would be needed but was delighted to find that a wealth of new and useful information required a thorough revision. I hope the book will find its way to new readers and that even those familiar with previous versions may find it useful.

On a quieter note, I am trying to practice what I preach and live a healthier and happier life personally. I have taken up Yoga again after two decades and remain an avid walker. I am happy to see that the beneficial effects of walking are getting the kind of media attention that they deserve. Not only is walking great exercise, but it puts us in touch with nature, my neighbors and the seasons.

I believe, as Benjamin Franklin said, that happiness derives more from small pleasures practiced daily than from huge windfalls that occur infrequently. In this regard, I continue to benefit from the wisdom of my elderly mother who takes pleasure in everyday activities: driving herself to the supermarket, teaching bridge, watching sports on TV, and gambling in the local casinos. She is always interested in everything and everybody – and actually remembers what you tell her.

So, I take pleasure in the changing seasons, the arrival of spring, the many colors in my summer garden, the falling leaves, and finally the ultimate challenge – winter with its bleak beauty.

So I leave you with that for now.

Best Wishes
